NBN-ZTE scandal could be the end of Arroyo'
The Makati Business Club (MBC) said Thursday that the ZTE-NBN scandal could be the beginning of the end of the Arroyo administration.

MBC executive director Alberto Lim said that the pillars of support of the administration are "collapsing" after the anomalies in the deal were uncovered, ABS-CBN News correspondent Alvin Elchico reported.

However, Lim clarified that they are not sure if the issue is the "flashpoint" but said it appears that it could bring down the administration.

The MBC encouraged the public to take a stance.

Lim also said that there is a big possibility that businessmen are only being careful in voicing out against their concern against administration due to fear of harassment or retaliation.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) said that it will wait for the testimony of Rodolfo Lozada Jr. in the Senate before releasing a statement.

The PCCI said that it was "irresponsible" for the MBC to issue such a statement.

PCCI chairman emeritus Donald Dee also said that citizens should not hastily make judgments based on comments such as those given by the MBC.

Lozada Jr. faced media early Thursday morning clarifying his disappearance and substantiating allegations regarding the roles of First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo and former elections chief Benjamin Abalos Sr. in the scrapped national broadband network (NBN) project of the government.

Lozada, who resigned as chief executive officer and chairman of the government-run Philippine Forest Corp., is the next Senate resource person in the multi-panel investigation into the NBN project.

Lozada disappeared after his arrival from Hong Kong at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

His mysterious disappearance prompted his family Wednesday to file petitions for writ of habeas corpus and writ of amparo before the Supreme Court to compel the Philippine National Police to surface him.

The high court on Thursday granted the petition for a writ of amparo filed by Lozada’s brother Wednesday.
