Davao rolls out red carpet for PBB's Ruben
A cloudy day and a slight drizzle were not enough to keep the people of Davao inside their homes as they went out and welcomed the city's "most famous son" at the moment -- Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 "Big Winner" Ruben Gonzaga.

Gonzaga, a popular comedian in Davao, returned to the city for the first time since he became the hit reality show's first male and latest winner.

Upon his arrival, Gonzaga took part in a motorcade that went around the city.

Men, women and children waited along the streets to get a glimpse of their "kababayan" who returned victorious after months inside the PBB House.

Some of them, like Marietta Manila, waited for Gonzaga's motorcade just to have her picture taken with him.

"Proud kami sa kanya kasi taga-Davao siya (We're proud of him because he's from Davao)," she said.

Emily Minorias, meanwhile, said she never failed to watch Gonzaga on TV.

Fans and supporters came out in droves for his mall shows, where he performed his signature "Budots" crazy dance steps. "Budots" is slang for bum in Davao.

The comedian thanked his supporters who helped him become the reality show's latest winner through viewers' votes.

"Maraming salamat talaga sa lahat ng suporta niyo sa akin (Thank you very much for your support)," Gonzaga told the crowd during one of his mall stops.

He also visited ABS-CBN Davao's broadcast center, where he worked as segment host for the local variety show “Dinhing Dapita Sadya” for five years.

Gonzaga is scheduled to return to Manila on Tuesday to do several projects lined up for him.

According to the PBB Website, Ruben is "quite a celebrity in Davao."

"Davao. Working for ABS-CBN Davao, Ruben is popularly known as a member of the channel’s 'Joke Squad.' He is also a stand-up comic in various bars with his trademark screaming faggot act," it said.

Gonzaga won a cash prize of P2 million, a condominium unit, a car, a business franchise for a fast-food chain, among others.

He became the latest winner of the hit reality show, following in the footsteps of Nene Tamayo, Keanna Reeves, Kim Chiu and Beatriz Saw.
